According to Komori, the decision to graduation come about due to AKB48's 5th Senbatsu General Election. The girls were able to decide whether to participate or not. Komori decided not to run for election.
"The candidacy system made me think deeply about my future. I've done this for 4 years and thought about the future. I've been doing my best, but I realized this path with AKB48 isn't the one I want to pursue," Komori said.
The idol later stated that she believed she should have studied more after graduating from high school. Komori's new goal in life is to study abroad.
