Yasushi Akimoto, producer of AKB48, has stated that the theme to the live action film adaption of the PATLABOR series is already in the works.
Headgear's PATLABOR franchise spans three films and a manga series. The goal of production for the latest installment, Patlabor - The Next Generation, is to reach out to a new generation of fans. The makers of the film aim not only to please long term followers of the series, but also to appeal to a younger audience.
Some of the girls may even make appearances in the film. The member casting has yet to be released, though Noa Izumi's role is allegedly going to the captain of Team A, Mariko Shinoda.
Members of AKB48 have also appeared in the anime series AKB0048, with roles that film makers hope will prepare them for their next venture.
