AKB48 member Sayaka Akimoto (24) has decided to graduate from the group instead of participating in the upcoming annual Senbatsu general election.
Akimoto has posted on her blog about this and stated:
"As the deadline to turn in applications for the election come closer, the thoughts of either applying or graduating from the group has been juggling in my head.
Being part of AKB and staying in it for 7 years has taught me a lot and has given me the chance to experience the happiness youth brings without missing anything.
I am really thankful for the never ending support of my family, friends, fans, the staff and most especially the guidance of Akimoto-sensei which have helped me become the person I am today.
But while treasuring the experiences and other things I have done as an AKB member, my eagerness of wanting to explore into a new world as a talent, which I believe will help me reach my dreams of becoming an actress, has grew stronger. And so, after thinking about it deeply, I've come up with a decision during this election season.
I, Akimoto Sayaka, will be graduating from AKB48 and will not be participating in the Senbatsu election for this year."
Although Akimoto has announced leaving the group, she has not mention the exact date of her graduation.
